Deconstructing Journalism Culture

Hanitzsch, Thomas. "Deconstructing Journalism Culture: Towards a Universal Theory" Paper presented at the annual meeting of the International Communication Association, TBA, San Francisco, CA, May 23, 2007: «One strength of the presented approach to journalism culture is that it combines relatively diverse and sometimes isolated scholarly discourses. Professional ideologies, such as "objective journalism" or "civic journalism," are mostly discussed with reference to journalism's social function and epistemological concerns (and sometimes also with respect to ethical issues), but often enough there is not much conceptual overlap between these perspectives. The theory-driven approach offered by this paper allows us to systematically map, compare, and classify professional ideologies within a seven-dimensional space of journalism cultures.» Cf.
